"Assurances from Experts and Health Authorities: Odisha's Health Infrastructure is Strong" Nov 28, 2023

The Union government has expressed concern over the rapid spread of pneumonia among children in northern China. In response, the Centre has urged states to implement revised surveillance guidelines to combat influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infections. Health authorities in Odisha have reassured the public that the state's health infrastructure is fully prepared to handle any disease outbreak. They have emphasized the importance of preparedness and precautions

The Director of Public Health, Dr. Niranjan Mishra, stated that while there is no need to panic, everyone should remain vigilant. The state has made necessary preparations, including the provision of oxygen, CU, and ICU arrangements for children. Ample facilities for testing and treatment are also available

According to health expert Dr. Niroj Mishra, the virus causing pneumonia in Chinese children is not new and is known to cause infections during the winter season. He advised elderly and influenza-affected individuals to get immunized immediately. He also recommended that individuals with fever and cough symptoms should stay at home and wear masks when going outside, while regularly washing their hands

The Union health secretary has written to state governments, requesting the readiness of human resources, hospital beds, ventilators, medicines, oxygen, antibiotics, and testing kits to handle ILI and SARI cases. State authorities have been asked to send swabs from children and adolescents to laboratories for testing.
