Late Doors frontman Jim Morrison's 80th birthday is being celebrated by both surviving members of the band, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, in separate events. Krieger will be performing a concert in Las Vegas with his solo band, featuring special guests whose identities are yet to be announced. The show will take place at Count's Vamp'd Bar & Grill and tickets can be purchased on VampdVegas.com. On the other hand, Densmore will be participating in a Q&A and screening event via Zoom at the Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties, New York. He will be joined by veteran journalist Richard Goldstein and local radio DJ Greg Gattine to discuss The Doors and Morrison's legacy
The event will include a screening of clips from a 1969 interview conducted by Goldstein with the band on the PBS show Critique. The tribute band Feast of Friends will also perform, and copies of Densmore's books will be available for purchase at the theater. Jim Morrison, with his powerful voice, poetic lyrics, and captivating presence, played a crucial role in creating some of the most iconic rock music of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite his struggles with alcohol and drugs, Morrison left an indelible mark on the music world. He passed away in Paris on July 3, 1971, at the age of 27. In other news, Krieger and his current band, The Soul Savages, have announced the release of their debut album, titled "Robby Krieger and the Soul Savages," on January 19, 2024
The album features 10 instrumental tracks that explore various genres, including jazz fusion, soul, psychedelic rock, blues, and funk. The lead single, "A Day in L.A.," is already available on digital platforms, accompanied by a visualizer video on YouTube. Additionally, Krieger is scheduled to perform a special show at the Whisky a Go Go as part of the club's 60th-anniversary celebrations on January 16, three days before the album's release.
