Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has dismissed rumors of major organizational changes in his Janta Dal (U) party ahead of a two-day party conclave in Delhi. In a brief interaction with journalists before boarding his flight, Nitish Kumar stated that the party meet was "normal" and that these meetings occur annually. When asked about rumors of organizational change, the Chief Minister maintained that there was nothing specific and that these were routine meetings. The rumors originated from speculation that Nitish Kumar's key aide, Rajiv Ranjan Singh 'Lalan,' wanted to step down as JD(U) national president
However, Nitish Kumar avoided directly addressing whether this resignation would be offered during the JD(U)'s crucial meetings in Delhi. Furthermore, he declined to comment on rumors of his potential joining of the NDA. Attention was also brought to claims made by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi, who suggested that Nitish Kumar was becoming uneasy with his party chief's closeness to their ally, the NDA, and fearing sabotage. Modi speculates that rumors of Nitish Kumar's return to the NDA camp are being deliberately spread by the JD(U) to maintain control over their Grand Alliance partners, the RJD and the Congress, in Bihar.
