The New York Jets have made some significant roster moves today, as reported by team reporter Ethan Greenberg. The most notable move is the placement of offensive tackle Duane Brown on injured reserve, officially ending his season. Brown had previously been placed on IR due to a hip injury, which kept him out for several weeks. Despite hopes for a quick return, it took nine weeks for him to be activated again. Since returning to the active roster, Brown had been used as a bench player in his first two games
He did make a start two weeks ago but played only five offensive snaps. Since then, he has been inactive. Placing Brown on IR won't change much for the Jets, except it opens up a roster spot for another player. That player will be tight end Zack Kuntz, a seventh-round rookie from Old Dominion. Kuntz has been on the team's practice squad all season
With Jeremy Ruckert dealing with injuries, Kuntz will provide depth behind Tyler Conklin and Kenny Yeboah. In addition to the roster moves, the Jets have also announced the return of kicker Austin Seibert to the practice squad. Seibert had previously spent one week with the team in September. This signing could indicate that regular kicker Greg Zuerlein might not be available for the upcoming Thursday night matchup with the Browns due to a right quadriceps muscle injury.
