Locking down your New Year's Eve plans might be a good idea at this point. Tickets need to be bought or RSVPs answered if you haven't already. Country singer Brett Kissel and his wife Cecilia have planned to celebrate at the River Cree on Sunday night, where Kissel will also be performing with his band. This takes away any stress or worry about how to spend the evening
Kissel describes the venue as "really nice" and expects it to be a great spectacle, as New Year's Eve should be. The best part is that they will already be well into their tour, so they will be in their prime. This New Year's Eve show will mark the end of a busy year for Kissel and his band. They have released four albums under the name The Compass Project: South, East, West, and North
The last album, North, is a live greatest-hits album that was released in early December. Each song on North was recorded in different years and cities, showcasing Kissel's diverse musical styles. Kissel took inspiration from a KISS concert he attended, where he was impressed by the extravagant experience and live performance. After the New Year's Eve show, Kissel plans to take a break in January before hitting the road again
He will be performing songs from the Compass Project along with hits from his previous albums. He also has a new song called "Two of Us" with Cooper Alan, which has already become a top-20 hit. Kissel chose to release the song rather than wait, as he didn't want to miss the opportunity. If you're looking for other New Year's Eve options, there are several events happening around town
Denim Daddies are playing at the Black Dog for a country-indie vibe. Indigenous playwright Josh Languedoc is presenting a music, comedy, and movement cabaret called Connections//Collisions. Union Hall will be hosting rappers Merkules and Chris Webby for a hip-hop New Year's celebration. Fruit Loop New Year's at the Starlite Room will feature a lineup of performers for a fun and energetic night
The Grindstone will be hosting a New Year's Eve Masquerade with comedy, music, and midnight bubbles. Pepperland will be playing Beatles songs at the Blue Chair, and there are options for tapas and a wine pairing. The Ice District will be showing the Edmonton Oilers game followed by live country music and a party. Lastly, Rumba Caliente will bring salsa, funk, and other rhythmic music to the Yardbird Suite for a special New Year's Eve fundraising event.
