"Uncovering the Cannabis Industry's Marketing Tactics: A Potential Crackdown on Evading Pharmaceutical Regulations" Dec 28, 2023

Several medical marijuana companies are selling their products as treatments for major medical conditions like cancer and depression, despite lacking evidence to support these claims. Companies like Trulieve, Curaleaf, and Verano are employing sales reps and patient advocates to promote the health benefits of their products to doctors, and in some cases, offering personalized swag or Topgolf parties to physicians. This strategy has allowed medical marijuana to become a big business, not only in more liberal states like California and Washington, but also in traditionally conservative "Just Say No" states. In Florida alone, these three companies collectively sold over 184,000 pounds of medical marijuana last year, resulting in billion- or multibillion-dollar valuations for several major medical marijuana companies

However, this approach is putting patients at risk, as these companies do not adhere to the same regulations as pharmaceutical companies. It is important to ensure that the claims made about the health benefits of medical marijuana are supported by credible evidence to protect patients and promote responsible use of the drug.
