"Yasir Masood, Glasgow Man, Battles Rare Condition and Receives Heartbreaking Terminal Cancer Diagnosis" Dec 28, 2023

Yasir Masood, a 42-year-old father from Glasgow, received devastating news when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Despite leading a healthy lifestyle, Yasir was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer, after seeking medical help for itchy skin. Typically found in individuals over the age of 65, bile duct cancer can be associated with certain medical conditions. Abnormal cell division and spread in the bile duct is the cause of this uncontrolled disease, affecting over 1,000 people annually, potentially spreading to other healthy organs like the gallbladder and pancreas

This news has left Yasir's family devastated, as they were shocked by the diagnosis given his healthy habits. His wife, Yasmine, explained their difficult situation, saying that their lives have been completely altered and their children are struggling with the health challenges both parents now face. Bile ducts, which connect different organs, including the liver and gallbladder, play a crucial role in the digestion process by allowing bile to travel from the liver to the small intestine. The risk of developing bile duct cancer increases with age and certain medical conditions, such as abnormal bile ducts, liver flukes, or liver cirrhosis

Following a procedure, Yasir was given the option of chemotherapy treatment, which only has a success rate of 10% to 15% for bile duct cancer patients. Opting for a better quality of life, he is currently receiving palliative care. However, there is hope for Yasir through Dendritic Cell Therapy, a treatment that utilizes vaccines to boost the body's immune response to tumor-specific antigens. To fund this expensive treatment, Yasir's family has started a GoFundMe campaign.
