Yolo County Public Health officials are once again encouraging residents to wear masks and get vaccinated as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations see a rise in the area. This advisory was released on Wednesday in response to data that shows high levels of the virus in wastewater, as well as an increase in respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases. Additionally, a new variant of COVID-19, labeled JN.1, is believed to be contributing to the current spike in cases. Yolo County's Public Health Officer, Dr
Aimee Sisson, emphasized the importance of wearing high-quality masks indoors and taking steps to protect oneself from infection. Yolo County has recently been identified by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the counties in Northern California with the highest levels of COVID-19 hospitalizations. Researchers from UC Davis have been monitoring the presence of COVID-19 in the area by testing the wastewater treatment plant.
