According to Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the state health services organization (Okypy), around 60 people, mainly elderly individuals, are currently being treated for Covid-19 in public hospitals. He stated that there is a consistent influx of patients with infections, indicating a contagious trend in the community that is also reflected in hospitalizations. The majority of those hospitalized are elderly individuals aged 75 and above, with a significant number coming from nursing homes. In terms of other infections, Charilaou stated that they are within the expected range. He attributed the increase in infections to the winter season, where people tend to gather in enclosed spaces without adequate ventilation
This, in turn, leads to a higher level of contagion. Charilaou also noted that there has been an uptick in patients with viral and bacterial infections, which falls within the projected parameters. Furthermore, Charilaou highlighted that there has been an increase in respiratory syncytial virus infections, as is typically seen and recorded every year. Additionally, there have been a few cases of mild influenza, with an expectation for more significant influenza cases to emerge between mid-January and the end of February.
