Writer Pat Proft and director David Zucker are discussing their disappointment at being "blocked" from the development of Naked Gun 4, the planned sequel to the original film. In honor of the 35th anniversary of the first Naked Gun movie, The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Zucker and Proft about their experiences working on the beloved comedy. Towards the end of the interview, the conversation turned to the fourth film, which Paramount has been working on. Liam Neeson is set to play Frank Drebin in the new film, with Seth McFarlane producing and Akiva Schaffer directing
Despite their involvement in the project and positive feedback from Paramount executive Jon Gonda, Zucker and Proft were ultimately sidelined from the film. Zucker never had the opportunity to meet with Seth McFarlane, and Proft expressed his dissatisfaction with not being able to write the script. One of the reasons Zucker believes they didn't fit the new movie was due to a controversial joke they had written about a police officer adjusting her Kevlar vest or undergoing breast reduction surgery. Both Zucker and Proft feel blocked out of the project and are unsure of the film's future timeline
